This walk starts at the Plataforma, a parking area at the head of the only road leading into Central Gredos and the Regional Park from Hoyos del Espino. The first part of the walk climbs from the Plataforma at 1770 meters starting on the stoned path and ascends to 2180 meters at the ruins of a refuge, formerly the hunting lodge of King Alfonso XIII. Another excellent spot to see the Gredos Ibex as there is a spring (fuente) nearby. From this point the middle section is a ridge walk with amazing views of the crags on the south side of the Gredos Cirque, the dramatic descent of the Garganta Blanca towards the reservoir of La Rosarita and across the Tietar Valley towards other mountain ranges. The final section, from the pass of Candeleda, is a gradual descent down the river valley of Prado Puerto and back to the Plataforma, the ideal ending to a mountain walk. We have often heard the sound of  the clash of  horns of male ibex resounding around this valley.
